St Marys Winter Leagues

Over the winter Buchanans have had three teams compete in the St Marys Prestwich Leagues. The 4 man singles league ran from the 17th Sep to the 5th Nov. It consisted of 2 divisions with 15 teams in each. Congratulations go to Buhcanans A team who finished 2nd in the A division, just 4 points behind  Whitefield BC A team and and 10 points clear of Rhoads who finished third. Special mention go to Dave Booth and Martin Chapman who finished 3rd and 4th in the averages . The B team finished in a shared 3rd place with Church Inst and Whitefield BC B in the B  division. Bailey Street B won the division with Little Lever Con B in 2nd place.  Special mention to Billy Smart who finished 4th in the averages.

The Pairs League took place from the 15th Nov to the 14th March, again there were 2 Divisions with 16 teams in Div A and 15 teams in Div B. Buchanan A competed in  Div A , finishing in a creditable 4th place.  We managed to field two teams in Div B.   The B team finished in  second place,  pipped at the post by Prestwich Con. The C team finished mid table which considering half of the team had never played on St Marys greens, was a considerable achievement.

Well done to everyone who represented Buchanans.

The Bury League

Buchanans A team have taken on a new challenge this coming season and joined Division one of the Bury League.  They intend to be a force to be reckoned with. To this end they  have recruited Malcom Holt  who  has a proven record as a top quality captain who has the skill to guide the team on to great things. Also joining the team are two exceptional players, Andy Cairns and Sean Reeder.

The B team remain under the excellent leadership of Mike Griffiths but have lost a number of key player. Thanks go out to Malcolm Holt ,Andy Cairns,  Olly Cairns and on his retirement from bowls Colin Lamb.

Ramsbottom League

Buchanans continue to have five teams in the Ramsbottom League, with the A and B in the First Division. C D and E fighting for bragging rights in the second Division.

Bury Vets

Malcom Holt and John Heywood have announced that this will be their last season in charge, so it is down to the team to step up our game and make this our best season yet as a thank you for all their hard work.
